I tried to explain that the power cord was wrong and that I just needed to swap it for the correct one. Hopefully they get this straightened out. I now have to wait "72 hours" to hear back from tech support because it seemed no one was available to handle this yesterday. One of them arrived with a power cord for an earlier model, so I can't even plug the thing in. We just ordered three refurbished "Late 2005" G5s for the office, ourselves. Left field idea - if you can somehow wiggle two or three pieces of strong cord, or a wide leather or fabric strap, under and around that stubborn drive and have someone else hold the cords/strap, pull the whole G5 in the opposite direction.įailing any or all of the above, I think it looks like a total dismantle job, much or all of which you could probably do yourself.It's been a couple months, so you may have taken care of this already, but I thought I'd post the following links as I wait to hear back from Apple regarding the problem with our order: Next idea - turn the computer on its side, open area downward, with L-hook attached to optical drive and tied to some immovable anchor point, and pull the whole G5 body away. Next - get/acquire a pair of long-nose needle-point pliers, something in the region of 6" - 8" (15-20 cm) in length.
You're going to use that block as a fulcrum. Alternatively, tape the block to the pliers I'm suggesting you use. You'll probably need to tape it into position close to the power plug. Find a small block of hard plastic, wood maybe, slightly wider than the narrow gap at the rear of the drive. Here's how I'd try it - but I don't guarantee it to work.
